Something on Sundays: December 10, 2017

So I discovered TNT is running Star Wars on repeat all weekend. Let’s just say it’s all the good I needed in my life. Seriously as the background to my reading it’s been perfection.

I’m always here for Star Wars and Carrie Fisher goodness.

What else is good on this sunday or past week? Well I’ve tackled quite a few things this weekend. Including a new comforter for the day bed in my office, finishing a book and wrapping up the one I’m reviewing on Tuesday!

It’s been a weird week over. I think it’s the wind up to the holiday season. I’m doing my best to be in the cheer of the season, but so far it’s lacking.

What do you do to get into the holiday mood?

24 Hour Readathon December 9, 2017 TBR

So currently I’m doing the Belle on the ladder scene at the idea of 24 hour readathon happening. Look I’m realistic I know it sounds amazing and magical. I also know the chances of me completing it is pretty low, but I’m here to at least try!

The one thing I really dig about this readathon is it’s quite simple honestly. It’s a do as you please one. You can watch ReadbyZoe’s video to learn more.

I’m going to have christmas movies on in the background and try to finish at least 2 books. Those books? Well I plan to read is the following

  1. Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings – I want to finish this ARC ASAP so I can have my review up for release. Also girl gang in space the bit I’ve read it so far is great.
  2. Next up is Turtles all the way down by John Green. I’ve been putting it off, but I want to tackle this book ASAP so it’s the next stop if I somehow read 500 pages in 24 hours.
  3. An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson is my third shot in the dark book for the readathon.

I’m adapting a few rules for myself on this challenge too. I will be sleeping, but I plan to have a running timer of my read time to let you know how I do. I will stay up until it kicks off in my time zone and read a few pages before I fall asleep.

Excited to start reading for this one! Let me know if you are participating and link me your TBR!

Review: The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner

Genre: Young Adult Fantasy

Series: Yes

Book number in series: 1 of

Rating: 5/5

I’m not really sure what is going on right now, but I’ve been on a streak of great books lately. The Thief was a book I picked up at Bookmarks Festival at the recommendation of my friend Ness. Her recommendations are usually pretty great and often leave me destroyed. This didn’t disappoint.

Reading Recaps

End of the Year Reading Goals

This is what aging feels like I think? It’s like HOLY CRAP! We’ve got one month left until the new year!

My biggest goal for the next month is to finish A Darker Shade of Magic series (which I may be done with this week honestly). Read a few ARCs I have sitting around including Zenith, Tess of the Road and a new motorcycle club romance. I’m pretty excited I’m at 113 books already!

What are your reading goals for the last stretch? Did you hit your goal yet? Are you already thinking about 2018 reading goals?

Review: A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

Genre: Young Adult Fantasy

Series: Yes

Book number in series: 2 of 3

Rating 5/5 Stars

Amazon | Goodreads

Hi, hello I’m here to talk about the amazingness of V.E. Schwab. I’m late to the party!

Let me tell you about why I love this book. There is a magical tournament. There is a massive reveal of sorts at the end too. It’s all I need in my books. Not all I need, but it does make things a pretty easy buy for me. Seriously you can probably convince me to read anything with magical tournaments in it.

Thrilled by

Seeing Thor for the second time on Thanksgiving, but with the family. My mom spent a lot of the day talking about how good the movie was. It really is a GREAT movie. Go see it if you haven’t. I will forever live in my Thor fangirl world now.

The last book club book was Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee. Let’s just say it’s a new favorite and talked about it for over an hour! Seriously new favorite book.

You can watch us talk about it here.

Finish It

Finish It! Darker Shade of Magic and A Gathering of Shadows Thoughts

Over halfway through this series now. And let me tell you right now it is one of the best things I’ve read. The audio narration is super on point as well. I can’t believe how killer book 2 was for narration.

Let me first say this. Go pick it up and give it a try. It might not be for everyone, but the world and character building is literally bar none. Schwab kills it everytime and I never quite fully see where it is headed until I’m a kid having a tantrum basically. EITHER WAY I AM DISTRAUGHT AND DEVASTATED!
