I think it is easiest to draw these out into mini reviews for the four short stories. The entire collection is really solid, but the breakdowns give a better look at how they all shine.

24 Hour Readathon December 9, 2017 TBR

giphy2

So currently I’m doing the Belle on the ladder scene at the idea of 24 hour readathon happening. Look I’m realistic I know it sounds amazing and magical. I also know the chances of me completing it is pretty low, but I’m here to at least try!

The one thing I really dig about this readathon is it’s quite simple honestly. It’s a do as you please one. You can watch ReadbyZoe’s video to learn more.

I’m going to have christmas movies on in the background and try to finish at least 2 books. Those books? Well I plan to read is the following

  1. Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings – I want to finish this ARC ASAP so I can have my review up for release. Also girl gang in space the bit I’ve read it so far is great.
  2. Next up is Turtles all the way down by John Green. I’ve been putting it off, but I want to tackle this book ASAP so it’s the next stop if I somehow read 500 pages in 24 hours.
  3. An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson is my third shot in the dark book for the readathon.

I’m adapting a few rules for myself on this challenge too. I will be sleeping, but I plan to have a running timer of my read time to let you know how I do. I will stay up until it kicks off in my time zone and read a few pages before I fall asleep.

Excited to start reading for this one! Let me know if you are participating and link me your TBR!

Tome Topple Readathon TBR November 17-30

Tome TOpPLe (1).png
I’m so excited! I just can’t hide it! I’m gonna read all the tomes I can in two weeks!

1. Read more than 1 tome – This one is basically just me finishing a few of these challenges!

2. Read a graphic novel – I plan to read either Vol 1 bind up of Full Metal Alchemist or Orange vol 1.

3. Read a tome that is part of a series – So this is going to be the finale of Darker Shades of Magic Trilogy for me A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab. I am almost done with book

4. Buddy read a tome – I’m putting off starting my next book club pick Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee for this pick. I’ll be starting first thing on the 17th!

5. Read an adult novel  – So my other novels kind of count, but If I manage to I will read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, but it’s the lowest on my priority list.

Are you participating? Let me know what book is your top priority for this challenge. Do you think you’ll manage to complete multiple challenges?

Autumn Readathon Oct 22-28 TBR

So Mercys Bookish Musing has a video about this readathon and I was pretty intrigued. Autumn happens to be my favorite season like so many other people. It’s kind of ‘autumn’ in the south for months longer than anywhere else as well.

1. Read a gothic/spooky book – The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin is my pick for this. Look book 1 ended on a massive cliffhanger and has me thinking that it’s getting pretty creepy and spooky come book two. Book one review coming this week too! Amazon and goodreads links.

2. Read a nonfiction book that feels autumnal (I’m classing this as nature writing or cold location travel writing/memoir) – Not sure on this pick and I’m going to be watching some videos to find suggestions.

3. Read a novel set in a cold location – The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden is my pick for this. One i got it super cheap (1.99 for kindle yes!). The plot sounds really great and like a great read.  Amazon and goodreads links.

4. Read a historical fiction novel – Hamilton’s Battalion: A Trio of Hamilton Romances is my pick for this. I’m a big fan of Hamilton and the premise of three stories centered around that time is just super exciting to me. Amazon and goodreads links for this one.

Bonus prompts:

5. Read a short story collection – Saving this pick for later on in the readathon if I need it. I’m going to think about it later.

6. Read an adult novel about a young female protagonist recommendation video – Same as above.

So I’m here already reading. I started Hamilton’s Battalion at midnight last night and am enjoying the first story so far. I plan to finish the first one and half of the second book next week.

Are you participating in this readathon? Let me know below so I can check out your TBR!

#TheReadingQuest Wrap Up

QuestBoardWeek4.jpg

Wow. The last month or so has been awesome. I wish it went a little longer because I’m sure I could have finished a lot more! This week I wrapped up 3 books this week. Considering I’ve been extremely busy this week I’m pretty proud of that accomplishment.

Finished This Week:

TheHistorian.jpg

Respawn: The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova

EXP: 10

HP: 78.05

I’m so glad I finished this. I left it almost finished when I was in college and never went back. BIG MISTAKE! If only because the book is the length that I always struggle with.  For some reason under 20 hours and over 30 is my sweet spot for audiobooks. I kept finding myself not interested. I would have gotten way farther in this challenge honestly if I had just powered through this one quicker. I couldn’t though. It was too long and drawn out. It’s not as good as I remember. I just felt meh about it. It’s a 3/5 for me.

TrialsofApollo.jpg

A Book Based on Mythology: The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan

EXP: 10

HP: 37.6

So I finished Percy Jackson loved it. Never finished another Riordan series. Not because i didn’t like them, but other books ya know? You get side tracked and read other series at least if you are me. Anyways back to goodness. This one was great. I really enjoyed it and read it super quickly over a few days. 4/5 fun times with Greek mythology:

DemonInTheWoods.jpg

A Book Set In Another World: The Demon In The Wood by Leigh Bardugo

EXP: 10

HP: 3

I’m not gonna lie. I picked this because it is 30 pages and I wanted to finish the Mage quest line before the reading quest ended. Really enjoyable gives good backstory to the darkling character. 3.5/5

Final Stats:

Exp: 285

Level: 6

HP: 365
Final Thoughts:

I loved this reading challenge. It’s going to live on my must participate list for a long time. I think next time I will plan my reading out better and stick to shorter reads as much as possible.

Did you participate? Let me know how your quest went in the comments!

#TheReadingQuest August 28-September 3

QuestBoardweek3.jpg

Week 3 is over and I didn’t read enough, but I’m planning to spend my holiday either A) finishing 1 audio book or B) finishing at least one book. I figure between that and a few other options I can finish up a few more quests. I really want to finish up the Mage path and at least a few more extra quests before next Sunday.

28374007.jpg

First Book in a Series: Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

EXP: 20

HP: 43.3

WOAH. This book was a great introduction to the start of this series. So freaking good. I’m excited for the sequel. Can not wait for that to release this month. 4/5

DeadLightMarch.jpg

A Book that contains Magic: Dead Light March by Daniel Jose Older

EXP: 20

HP: 8.3

I’m a big fan of the Shadowshaper series. It’s ridiculously good and well written. I knew I wanted to finish this novella before Shadowhouse Fall releases later this month so I took the time to read through this quick novella. Though it’s short it adds a lot to the world and the characters. 4/5

In Progress Books:

Respawn: The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova – Slowly working my way through this one. I should be done this week though I’m about 25% through the book, but as it’s audio it’ll take me most of next week to finish.

A Book Set in a Different World: This Savage Song or A Court of Mist and Fury are top on my list for this one, but I may go with something shorter to finish this quest path.

A Book Based on Mythology: Magnus Chase and Apollo is sitting on my TBR pile so I think I will dive into that. I abandoned the rest of the Riordan series books because I got so behind. Also I think I can finish it in a day.

This Week’s Stats:

XP Earned: 40 Total HP: 225

Level: 5

HP: 245
