I’m not really sure what is going on right now, but I’ve been on a streak of great books lately. The Thief was a book I picked up at Bookmarks Festival at the recommendation of my friend Ness. Her recommendations are usually pretty great and often leave me destroyed. This didn’t disappoint.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one honestly and felt like I was just along for the ride. Honestly I spent a good chunk of this book thinking it was going to be a 3 star read. Not quite engaging enough to love it and not bad enough to hate it.

Turner writes a beautiful world and really builds the characters. I loved the intertwining of lore in the story. Often they gather around a campfire and tell a different myth for this world. This provided a lot of enrichment to the plot and character growth.

This honestly took me by surprise. I’m not joking that for maybe 75-80% of the book I was thinking okay 3 stars and I’ll read the sequel. I thought I saw where it was going, but no I did not. Turner literally threw me for the biggest loop I can’t believe it.

Either way if you are a fantasy fan and looking for something very different give this book a try! It’s under 300 pages to so it is a really quick read.
